Psychological Dimensions of Prayer and Meditation March 17 – SaturdayDescription: Christian contemplatives and other spiritual seekers have become increasingly aware of psychological and emotional dimensions to prayer and meditation. As one becomes more inwardly “empty” and sensitive to the nuances of one’s emotions, thoughts, memories and desires, one often begins to realize dimensions of personal experience that one has brushed aside because of our busy, multi-tasking lives. Sometimes, one discovers a phenomenon called “spiritual bypassing”, whereby one inadvertently uses religious or spiritual practices to repress unpleasant, fearful or even joyful and creative experiences. How can we better integrate our spiritual and psychological experience? Included are presentations, silent meditation and prayer, and group discussion.
